SHOE & LEATHER CARE GUIDE

You’ve found the piece you’ve been looking for. You wear them nearly everyday, and now, several scuffs and stains later, it’s time to restore their luster. Read on for our guide to taking the best care of your favorite footwear.

Leather Care

  • For any surface spots or smudges, use a damp cloth to gently wipe clean.

For scuff marks on rubber soles, opt for an eraser pad. Damped and gently wipe for optimal results.

  • We recommend regularly polishing your shoes to condition the leather and maintain its smooth finish. Apply the polish and vigorously rub it into the leather. Once it dries, buff with a polishing brush and finish with a lint-free cloth.

Product

  • We recommend storing your sneakers in their box to retain their shape and protect them from accidental stains transferred from other footwear.

Tip: The quickest way for a sneaker shape-up is to change out the laces for a crisp new set.

  • Like our leather loafers and brogues, our leather sneakers can and should be polished—we like Allen Edmonds Cream Polish, which is available in array of colors to match and enhance your shoe color.

Please see above for fabric care tips.

Suede Care

  • First things first: we suggest applying a water-repellant sealant spray before venturing out to protect the suede from inclement weather. We like to reapply every two months or so. One brand we like is Allen Edmonds Shoe Water Protector Spray.

Next, invest in a suede brush. Over time the material can appear to flatten; a rigorous brushing will restore the texture and look of the suede. Minor scuff marks can be treated with a suede eraser.

General Shoe Care Essentials

  • Regardless of the type of shoe you’re treating, we would be remiss if we didn’t recommend using cedar shoe trees as an important part of shoe care. Not only do they help retain the shoe’s shape, but the untreated cedar effectively absorbs excess moisture left behind after wearing that could cause creases and cracks in the shoe’s leather. The cedar also offers anti-bacterial properties and is a natural deodorizer, helping to keep your footwear in top condition for years to come.
